A circuit timed to the game drive

Lodge guests all return from the afternoon drive within the same half hour, dusty and ready for heat and then cold before dinner. The sauna, the plunge and a shaded rest deck therefore sit a few steps apart, with towels and water where people need them, so the whole round happens before the dinner bell.

Two plunge positions for every eight sauna seats is the ratio that keeps that ninety-minute window moving.

Off-grid and semi-off-grid plant

Many bush lodges run on solar with generator backup. Heaters and chillers are the two big loads and they must not start together, so we sequence them in the controls and size the plunge to the water budget.

Dust in the bushveld dry season is the other constraint: washable pre-filters, shaded and ventilated siting, and a three-month service interval rather than six.

Water is the third. A lodge on a borehole has a finite daily volume and often hard water, so plunge pools are filtered and topped up rather than drained weekly, and the steam generator gets a softener sized to the borehole's test results.

Wine estates and the Cape

On an estate the spa is part of a hospitality offer that already has a strong identity, so the materials matter: local granite, dark slate, hardwood, copper. We work to the estate's architecture rather than importing a hotel aesthetic into it.

The Cape winter is both the estate spa's best season and the Winelands' quietest one for visitors, so building in autumn means the suite opens just as the cold arrives — the one timetable in hospitality where construction and demand line up.

Who builds it

Hotel and lodge spas are the heart of our factory's work: 220 hotel spa projects since 1987, for brands including Hilton, Hyatt, Sofitel and Kempinski. Cabins, plant and benches are made and dry-assembled in Istanbul, shipped to Cape Town or Durban and installed by our own crew. A small thermal suite sits at 440 to 980 thousand rand indicative, a full lodge or resort spa at 1 to 2.4 million.
