Heat on a hillside, cold water carved from the island

We design and build heat and cold rooms across the Seychelles — a cabin wedged between boulders above Glacis, a granite plunge basin at Anse Takamaka, a thermal suite on Praslin. Almost every site is on a slope, against rock, or on another island, and all three are design inputs rather than surprises.

Why it is different here

Slope, granite and a crossing — the three lines nobody else quotes

Every plot is on a slope with rock on it

We walk the route from the nearest vehicle to the cabin position before we quote, photograph every turn and size the panels to the tightest gap. Then the cabin sits on a granite plinth pinned into bedrock, or a steel sub-frame an engineer has sized, with a cut-off drain above it.

The granite is the material, not the obstacle

Boulders stay where they are: as a wall, as a backdrop, as shade, or as the block a plunge basin is carved from. A honed bowl inside a split outer face is the one thing we make that could not exist anywhere else — with insulation behind it, because granite is the finish, not the tank.

Nothing here cools to plunge temperature by itself

There is no cool month and no cold night. A chiller is required in every installation and we say so before quoting. Shade, insulation and a lid are the three levers on the bill, and we give you the monthly figure with the quote rather than in month two.

How we work

A workshop at Providence and a quote that shows the carry

Panels, benches, doors and sub-frames are made at Providence, and every cabin is dry-assembled in full in the yard, photographed and numbered before it is taken down and shipped. Two days in the workshop saves a fortnight on an island where nothing can be bought.

Every quote separates the access and carry, the marine specification, the crossing where there is one, and the services. If it is the slope, the salt or the barge that makes your project expensive, you will see which line it is.

Granite blocks are split, carved and honed here too — the inner bowl smooth, the outer faces left raw. Come and sit in one before you order it.

Questions

Seychelles: asked before every project

A lorry cannot reach our house. Can you still build?

That is normal here rather than a problem. We survey and photograph the carry route, size panels to the tightest gap and price the carry as its own line.

Do I really need a chiller?

Yes. There is no month in these islands when a tub holds plunge temperature by itself. We would rather tell you that before you spend the money than after.

Can you carve a plunge from a boulder on our plot?

Sometimes — it depends on the stone. We look at it before promising anything, and a carved basin on a suspended structure needs an engineer's sign-off first.

Do you work on Praslin and La Digue?

Regularly. Everything is consolidated into one shipment and dry-assembled at Providence first. On La Digue panels are built for handcart and bicycle, because that is what moves things there.

How much longer does an island project take?

Ten to fourteen weeks rather than eight to twelve, and almost all of the difference is shipping and scheduling rather than building.

How often does it need servicing?

Quarterly, everywhere, because every site here is coastal. Each visit includes a corrosion inspection.

We are on rainwater. Does that matter?

For a steam room, a great deal. Rainwater is soft and kind to a generator; borehole water here can be hard enough to scale one in months. We test at the property before specifying.

What is the payment schedule?

40% to start the drawing and order materials, 40% when panels leave the workshop, 20% on commissioning.
