Compact, because space is precious

Floor space in Victoria and on Eden Island is expensive, so a Seychelles recovery room is usually compact: two cold tubs and a four-person sauna in a room of about 20–25 m², with a shower at the entry. It gives a gym or a hotel club something its members use daily without swallowing a studio.

Allowing for getting in and out, one tub handles about twelve bathers in an hour. A gym sizes on its busiest after-work hour; a team sizes on the quarter of an hour after training, which often means a third tub.

Hygiene in a climate that never cools

Warm air speeds up everything that grows in shared water. Every tub has its own pump, cartridge filter and ozone or UV dosing; members shower before getting in; and a named person signs the water log each day. Held properly at 8–10 °C by a correctly sized chiller, the water stays stable for weeks rather than days.

The chiller itself goes in a filtered cabinet away from the pool plant and chemical store, because chlorinated, salty air corrodes a condenser fast.

Floors, slabs and power

Nine hundred litres of water is close to a tonne, so above ground level we want the structural engineer's written OK before quoting. The room's floor drains to a linear channel, the tiles grip when wet, and towels hang between the tubs and the gym floor.

Commercial premises on Mahé normally have three phases at 415 V; heater and chillers get separate breakers, and if a generator backs up the building their restarts are staggered.

Hotels, teams and race season

Beach hotels on Mahé increasingly pair their gym with a cold tub and a small sauna for guests who run the coast road before breakfast; there the zone is sized on the morning, not the evening. Football and athletics squads want a short, intense window after training, and in the weeks before the February marathon running clubs ask for evening access too.

Each case changes the number of tubs rather than the specification, so the same hygiene rules and the same filtered chiller cabinets apply throughout.
