What a sauna and cold plunge actually cost in the Seychelles

Why transhipment and granite set the price here

Everything we send reaches the country at Port Victoria. A client in Victoria or on Eden Island pays for one delivery by van. A client above Glacis pays for the van and a carry up the hillside. A client on Praslin pays for the crates to be moved again onto an inter-island cargo boat, landed at Baie Sainte Anne and trucked on; La Digue adds one more boat and a handcart. Each handling adds cost, time and risk of damage, and none of them appear in a catalogue price.

Granite works both ways. As bedrock close to the surface it gives the cheapest permanent foundation on a slope. As a carved plunge basin it is the most expensive object we make per kilogram, and its weight decides the crane, the route and the structure beneath it.

What a sauna costs on Mahé, before any boat

Bands cover a supplied and installed room and firm up after a survey, on site or by video. The cabin, heater, benches and controls are built and test-assembled in our Istanbul factory; marine specification is inside every figure, because no Seychelles site is far enough from the sea to go without it. The second boat: Praslin, La Digue and beyond

Inter-island shipping and handling sits at SCR 21,000–95,000 on our list, depending on volume, the island and whether a crane is needed at either end. La Digue adds handcart or small-vehicle transport on the island; private islands depend on their own boat schedule.

The larger cost is time. Cargo boats run to a timetable, and between December and March the north-west monsoon can hold a sailing for days. We plan for it by sending the whole project in one consignment, with spare fixings and consumables, and by shipping early where a season opening is fixed. Granite: an asset that weighs tonnes

A carved granite plunge basin is SCR 99,000–185,000 on its own. It then needs a structure that can carry it — rock or an engineered slab — and a route onto the terrace: a crane where one can reach, otherwise a tracked carrier, rollers and a temporary track. That access work falls within our boulder and slope package, SCR 18,000–85,000, and on Praslin the boat sets the largest block we will quote.

The hillside carry on Mahé

On a Glacis or Bel Ombre plot the van often stops forty steps above or below the house. We measure the narrowest gap on the path before quoting and make every panel to pass it, which means more, smaller panels and more hours on site. The carry is a line of its own rather than a hidden percentage, so two quotes can be compared fairly.

Cold plunge prices, chiller included

The unchilled tub is on the list so the number is honest, not because we recommend it: coastal water here rarely drops below about 26 °C, and a tub with no machine simply tracks the air. The Seychelles cold plunge page explains the chiller sizing.

Running costs with no cool season

At sea level there is no altitude correction on the heater, and no cool night to help the chiller. A 6 kW heater draws around 4–5 kWh for an evening session including warm-up. A 1 HP chiller holding a shaded, lidded tub at 10 °C may run ten to fourteen hours a day, roughly 300–420 kWh a month; PUC revised its domestic tariffs in October 2025, so multiply by your own rate. On a private island running on diesel, each of those kWh costs considerably more.

Shade, insulation and a light lid are the three things that shrink that bill; a slightly warmer setpoint is the fourth.

Keeping an island budget honest

Decide every finish before the crates are packed, because a change after shipping means another boat. Ask for the carry, the crossing, the marine package and any crane as separate lines. Make sure the cabin is assembled and checked before it leaves the factory. And budget a maintenance contract from the start: quarterly visits, grouped with other island properties, cost less than one emergency crossing.
