Sizing for the rush, not the roster

A member spends two to four minutes in the water, and with getting in and out a single tub serves ten to fifteen people an hour. Count your busiest hour, not your membership, and divide.

Most clubs that bring us a plan for two tubs leave with three. A queue for the ice bath is what people remember about a gym, and a queue at the one facility your competitor lacks throws the advantage away.

Shared water in a warm climate

Everything that lives in water multiplies faster in constant warmth, and many bodies share each fill. So circulation, a cartridge filter and ozone or UV are not options on a club cold plunge tub, and a shower at the entry keeps sweat and sunscreen out before anyone steps in.

Then comes the least glamorous and most effective item: a cleaning rota on the wall with a name against every slot. We write it with your team, train them on it and check it at six months.

Floors, slabs and upper storeys

The floor falls to a channel drain, the surface stays non-slip after years of chlorine, and a towel point stops wet feet reaching the gym floor. A 900-litre tub weighs close to a tonne before anyone gets in, so an engineer looks at the slab before we quote — essential in the many African clubs that sit on an upper floor.

Cold through every outage

The whole zone, ice bath chillers included, goes on circuits the backup really feeds. Members lose faith in an ice bath that is lukewarm every time the grid drops, and they notice within two weeks. On inverter and generator sites the sauna heater and the chillers are interlocked so their starts never coincide.

Padel, rugby, running and fight gyms

The shape of the demand follows the sport. Padel has spread fast through Cairo and Casablanca and is arriving in Lagos and Nairobi; a padel club's rush is the two hours after the working day, so the zone is sized on that window. Rugby clubs in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Nairobi put a whole squad into cold water after training, which argues for a pool-format plunge rather than a row of single tubs.

Running clubs, CrossFit boxes and fight gyms want quick in-and-out tubs by the exit and a sauna for the members who stay. Hotels with a gym want the zone next to the changing rooms rather than beside the pool, where it would compete with sun loungers for space and for shade.
