Five Elements Africa

Recovery zones for gyms, padel and rugby clubs

A rugby squad arrives all at once and a padel club empties in blocks. Both break a recovery corner built around one tub.

Squad throughput

Two to four minutes in the water plus changeover gives roughly ten to fifteen people per tub per hour. A rugby squad is twenty-five people wanting the same fifteen minutes, so we size on the squad rather than the membership and usually land on four positions.

Clubs almost always ask for a bigger sauna and fewer tubs than they need. We push back, because the queue forms at the cold water.

Floor, drainage and the slab

Falls to a channel drain, a non-slip surface that survives chlorine, and a towel point that stops people walking wet across a gym floor. A 900-litre tub is nearly a tonne before anyone is in it, so on a suspended floor we ask for the slab detail before quoting.

Hygiene and a schedule somebody owns

Circulation, cartridge filtration and an ozone or UV stage on shared water, a rinse shower at the entry, and a visible cleaning schedule with a name on it. Shared cold water without those is a shared bath.

In short

  • Size on the squad, not the membership — the queue forms at the cold water
  • Channel drain, falls, non-slip floor that survives chlorine
  • Slab checked before quoting: a 900 l tub is nearly a tonne
  • Circulation, filtration, ozone or UV, rinse shower, and a named cleaning schedule
Questions

Gym & club zones in South Africa

How many tubs for a rugby club?

Four, for a full squad. Two is a bottleneck and one is a queue people stop joining.

Can we add a sauna later?

Plan the drainage and the electrical run now. Retrofitting through a finished floor costs more than the cabin.

What does it cost to run?

Chiller electricity is the main line and it is seasonal. We give you a monthly figure with the quote.
