Custom saunas and cold plunges in Cape Town, built for this coast

Most of our South African work happens within sight of Table Mountain, and no two sites ask for the same room: a cantilevered Clifton deck, a terraced Camps Bay slope and a Constantia lawn are three different builds wearing the same city's name. This page is the map — what we build in Cape Town, what it costs in 2026, and which neighbourhood guide to read next.

Cape Town, South Africa

What we build in Cape Town

The core of our Cape Town work is the paired room: a custom sauna with a cold plunge or ice bath beside it, sized to the site rather than to a catalogue page. Around that pair sit the variations — an outdoor cabin in a garden, an infrared cabin where a flat has no drain, a steam room tiled into a bathroom renovation.

If you want to start from a format rather than a blank sheet, our saunas for sale in Cape Town page lists the standard two-, four- and six-person cabins we install most often. Every one of them is still measured against your door widths, your stair and your supply before we quote.

The cabins are built at our factory, landed at Cape Town port and installed by our own crew — the same people who did the survey. Nothing is subcontracted between the measurement and the first heat-up.

Four Cape Towns, four different builds

*The Atlantic seaboard* — Camps Bay and Clifton & Bantry Bay — is steel posts into retaining walls, panels carried down steps by hand, A4 stainless against salt and the south-easter. *The urban slopes* — the City Bowl and Sea Point — are compact cabins on terraces and balconies, measured to the millimetre. *The southern suburbs* — Constantia — have the ground for the full sequence: cabin, plunge, rinse and a covered bench. *The valley* — Hout Bay — mixes all three on one hillside.

The reason we keep separate guides for each is that the slope, the wind and the access decide more of the price than the cabin does. Read the one that matches your street before you ask for a number, and the number will make sense faster.

What a sauna costs in Cape Town in 2026

A two-person cabin with solid walls lands at R58,000–R82,000 installed; the usual family format — four people, one glass wall — at R86,000–R128,000; a six-person cabin with charred timber and structural glass at R130,000–R190,000. A plunge tub runs R36,000–R58,000 without a chiller and R66,000–R140,000 with one. Steep-site steelwork, where your plot needs it, adds R22,000–R58,000 as its own line.

Those bands and what sits inside them are unpacked in our guide to sauna prices in South Africa, and the pricing page shows how a quote is itemised. If you are weighing a home room against the city's sauna clubs and seaside sessions, the break-even maths is in sessions vs owning in Cape Town — for most two-a-week households it crosses over inside three years.

The Atlantic does half the cold work

Cape Town is one of the few cities where the sea genuinely replaces a chiller for much of the year: the Atlantic side rarely climbs out of the low teens, and a summer south-easter can pull it under 12 °C. A plunge tub in a shaded Cape Town garden holds a usable temperature on mains water alone from May to October; a chiller earns its keep in the February stretch when you want 8 °C regardless of the weather.

Winter is the other half of the argument. From May to September this city is cold, wet and dark by six — and that is when a sauna stops being a weekend novelty and becomes the most used room in the house. The wet Cape winter also sets a build rule: a deep drained rainscreen cavity on any outdoor cabin, because driving rain off the sea is not a detail here.

Questions

Cape Town: what people ask

How long does a Cape Town installation take?

A standard cabin is two to four days on site once it lands; a steep-site build with steelwork runs longer. The survey sets the schedule before you commit.

Do you build on the Atlantic seaboard's steep plots?

Yes — steel posts into the retaining wall and a priced hand-carry are routine for us. Camps Bay and Clifton are covered in their own guides.

Sauna club membership or my own room?

If you go twice a week or more, owning usually breaks even inside three years. The full comparison with 2026 session prices is in our journal.
