Estates build for guests

An estate spa is a hospitality product: throughput, durability, documentation and a member of staff who owns the log. We specify commercial controls and finishes chosen for daily cleaning rather than for a family's Saturday.

It also has to look like it belongs to the estate. We use local granite, oak and copper rather than importing a hotel aesthetic into a working farm.

Phasing around harvest

February to April the estate is doing something more important than a building project. We schedule major work outside harvest and keep anything that must happen during it sealed, quiet and out of the way of the cellar.

Winter is the season here

Winelands winters are cold and wet, and a sauna on an estate is a genuine winter draw. The plunge beside it runs on mountain-cold municipal water for months without a compressor.
