Three formats that cover most homes

A garden sauna cabin is the classic: two to six people, a Finnish heater with stones, thermo-treated or hardwood lining, and usually one glass wall onto the garden or the view. It stands on a plinth on level ground, or on galvanised steel posts on a Cape Town slope.

A two- to four-person infrared sauna is the apartment answer. It runs from a 230 V plug on its own circuit, needs no drain, draws comfortably less than a household inverter can carry, and comes apart again when you move. Sea Point, the City Bowl and Sandton flats are its natural home.

An outdoor sauna — a square cabin or a barrel-style one — is built for weather: a drained rainscreen cavity against Cape winter rain, a heavier roof against Highveld hail, stainless fixings near either coast. A barrel sheds rain neatly and is compact; a square cabin gives more bench length for the same footprint. On a steep plot we will tell you which one the site actually suits.

What installed actually includes

A survey in person or by video, a dimensioned drawing and the heater calculation, with an altitude correction on the Highveld. The cabin built in our Istanbul factory, dry-assembled and checked before it is numbered and crated with its fixings, seals and a spares allowance. Sea freight, customs clearance and delivery to your gate. Assembly by our own crew, the heater wired by a registered electrician who issues a Certificate of Compliance, commissioning, a first session with you and a written care sheet.

What is not included, and is always quoted as its own line: civil works such as a new plinth, the cable run from your board, and three-phase supply work where a large heater needs it.

Delivery to Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban

Crates arrive through the port of Cape Town for the Peninsula, the Winelands, the Overberg and the Garden Route, and through Durban for the KZN coast and — by road up the N3 — Johannesburg and Pretoria. The lead time is 6–10 weeks from drawing approval, plus the sea passage.

Access is measured before we quote. A Clifton stairway, a Bryanston garage door and a Ballito estate gate are three different deliveries, and the carry is priced openly rather than hidden in the cabin.

Buying a kit versus buying it installed

A boxed sauna for sale online can be cheaper on the day and is fine for a flat, level garden with a confident electrician. It is the wrong answer on a slope, near the sea, or on the Highveld, where the heater, the roof and the fixings need to be chosen for the site. Ours carry a 24-month warranty and we have manufactured saunas since 1987.

How much does a sauna cost in Cape Town?

Indicatively from about R28,000 for a two-person infrared cabin and R58,000 for a two-person Finnish sauna, to around R190,000 for a six-person cabin with glass, installed. A steep site adds R22,000 to R58,000 for steel posts and the carry.

Do I need approval for an outdoor sauna in a Cape Town garden?

It depends on the size of the cabin, your municipality, any estate or heritage rules and, in sectional title, the body corporate. Check before ordering; we supply the dimensioned drawing and elevation for whichever approval applies.

What does an infrared sauna cost to run in Cape Town?

At about 2 kW for forty minutes, roughly 1.3 kWh a session. On the City of Cape Town domestic tariff of about R4.14 per kWh for the first 600 kWh (2026/27), that is around R5–R6 a session.

Do you sell barrel saunas in South Africa?

We build barrel-style outdoor saunas as well as square cabins. On level ground either works; on a slope or where you want more bench length, the square cabin usually suits better, and we will say so.

How long before we can use it?

6–10 weeks from drawing approval, plus the sea passage to Cape Town or Durban. Assembly on site takes days, because the cutting and fitting already happened in the factory.
