Saunas and plunge tubs for Sandton homes and apartments: 1,750 m altitude, summer hail, dry winters and the co…
Read more →Johannesburg is our altitude market: at roughly 1,750 metres the air is thinner, the winter nights drop below freezing, and both facts change how a sauna and a plunge are specified. This page maps what we build across the city and Pretoria, what it costs in 2026, and why a Highveld quote reads differently from a coastal one.

The staple is the garden pairing: a custom sauna with a cold plunge or ice bath beside it, on estates with the lawn to take the full sequence. Indoors, an infrared cabin suits apartments and townhouses with no drain to spare, and an outdoor cabin with a hail-rated roof covers everything in between. Standard formats are on our saunas for sale page; every one is still measured to your site before we quote.
Most of our Johannesburg work concentrates in the northern suburbs — Sandton and Bryanston & Hyde Park have their own guides — with Pretoria East as the second pole. Cabins are built at our factory, landed at Durban, trucked up and installed by our own crew.
At 1,750 metres air carries noticeably less heat than at sea level, so a four-person cabin that takes a 9 kW heater on the coast is sized up here — undersizing on the Highveld is the single commonest fault we see in saunas built by general contractors. We show the altitude correction as its own line so you can see what the elevation costs.
The same altitude hands something back: Highveld winter nights run below zero, and from May to August a plunge tub holds single-digit water on mains supply alone. A chiller here is a summer appliance, and some owners skip it entirely — our guide on when a plunge needs no chiller runs the numbers.
Johannesburg's summer storms throw serious hail, and an outdoor cabin here gets a heavier roof sheet with a proper fall, impact-rated glass wherever glazing faces upward, and the plant tucked under an eave. It is a modest line at build time and far cheaper than reglazing after one February storm.
Lightning season also decides where the electrics go: surge protection on the heater and chiller circuits is standard in our Gauteng installs, not an optional extra.
The bands match the rest of the country with the altitude and hail lines added where they apply: a two-person solid-wall cabin at R58,000–R82,000 installed, the four-person glass-wall family format at R86,000–R128,000, a six-person charred-timber cabin at R130,000–R190,000, plunge tubs at R36,000–R58,000 without a chiller and R66,000–R140,000 with one. The full breakdown is in our sauna prices in South Africa guide, and the pricing page shows how a quote is itemised.
One Johannesburg-specific advantage: the inverter and battery base this city built through the load-shedding years is exactly what a scheduled heater and a plunge chiller want to run on — what your inverter is for now makes the case.
Yes. Thinner air at 1,750 m carries less heat, so we size up against the same cabin at the coast and show the correction as its own line in the quote.
From May to August, usually yes — mains water holds single digits on cold Highveld nights. For guaranteed cold in January, you want the chiller.
Yes — Pretoria East has its own guide, and the same crew installs across Gauteng.
