What fits in Rs 200,000

An infrared cabin for two, installed indoors in an apartment or a rental villa, with room to spare. Or a two-person teak sauna with solid walls at the lower end of its band, on a sheltered, level site where the anchorage is simple. Or an insulated teak plunge tub without a chiller — refreshing rather than cold in February.

What does not fit is a sauna and a chilled plunge together, and it is worth saying so plainly: on this island the chiller is a year-round machine, and the tub that holds 8 °C starts at Rs 185,000 on its own.

What pushes a project past Rs 800,000

The usual route is a four-person teak sauna with a glass wall onto the lagoon, a carved basalt tub beside it, a thatched pavilion over both, and the anchorage and marine lines that an exposed coastal site requires. Each of those is reasonable on its own; together they take a villa wellness corner to the top of its Rs 420,000–880,000 band. A plunge pool for six to eight people, at Rs 760,000 to 1.45 million, crosses the line by itself.

None of it is waste, but every item should be chosen with its own number visible — which is why our quotes list them separately.

Cyclone anchoring: the line not to remove

Cyclone season runs roughly November to May, and a cyclone lifts a cabin rather than pushing it over. The anchorage is a continuous load path — roof to wall, wall to frame, frame to steel, steel to concrete — built with galvanised straps and threaded rod, and signed by an engineer where the exposure warrants. On our price list the package is Rs 45,000 to 120,000.

The spread is almost entirely position. A courtyard in Moka sits at the bottom; an open deck at Poste Lafayette or on the Le Morne peninsula at the top. Moving the cabin behind a wall or the house often saves more than any discount, and the cyclone tie-down work is quoted separately precisely so you can make that choice. The marine upgrade and the humidity

Salt near Mauritius is not extreme by ocean standards, but the humidity never lets metal dry, so corrosion is continuous rather than seasonal. The marine upgrade — A4 stainless throughout, sealed and filtered plant enclosures, deeper drained cavities — runs Rs 60,000 to 150,000 on coastal sites. On the central plateau it is largely unnecessary, which is one reason inland projects cost less.

Ventilation is the other humidity cost, and a cheap one: a humidistat-controlled extract in every enclosed room, so it runs until the room is dry rather than for a fixed time.

Shipping to Port Louis and the calendar

The cabin, benches and plant are built and dry-assembled in our Istanbul factory, numbered, crated with a spares allowance and shipped to Port Louis. The sea passage is the reason a Mauritian programme is planned in weeks rather than days: 6–10 weeks per room from drawing approval, plus the voyage, with the deck, pads, drainage and cable done while the crates travel.

The calendar matters as much as the price. Heavy work goes into the window between the end of the cyclone season and the peak, and a late change to anything structural — a switch to basalt, a more exposed position — changes the anchorage and costs far more in week six than in week one.

Running costs on the CEB tariff

A 9 kW heater uses roughly 4–6 kWh for an evening session including heat-up. CEB's domestic tariff reaches about Rs 8.8 per kWh in its top block, so a session costs in the order of Rs 35 to 55.

The chiller is the larger line because it runs every month: a shaded, insulated, lidded tub might use 200 to 400 kWh a month in the hot season, a few thousand rupees. Service is quarterly on the coast — a sauna visit at Rs 9,000 to 16,000, a chiller visit at Rs 10,000 to 18,000 and a corrosion inspection at Rs 7,000 to 13,000. Three decisions that move the number most

Position: sheltered or exposed decides the anchorage line and often the marine line too. Tub: teak without a chiller, teak with one, or carved basalt spans Rs 100,000 to 620,000. Shade: a thatched pavilion adds Rs 80,000 to 190,000 but lowers the chiller's work every afternoon for the life of the installation.
