What infrared is, and why it suits the island

Radiant panels heat you rather than the air, which settles at a mild 45 to 60 degrees; with no heater stones and no water, this is a different experience from a Finnish sauna and is sold as such. On an island where the air outside is already warm and damp, a dry, moderate cabin that is ready in a quarter of an hour is what many owners actually use.

Syndics, leases and power

Syndics tend to say yes quickly, since there is no water and nothing is screwed into the building; the file needs only the cabin's footprint and power rating, which we provide. Mauritius runs 230 V single phase from CEB, and a two-person cabin drawing 1.5–2.2 kW needs its own circuit with a breaker and earth-leakage protection rather than a shared socket.

Forty minutes in the cabin consumes roughly 1.3 units of electricity. With CEB's domestic tariff reaching about Rs 8.8 per kWh in its top block, that is roughly Rs 11 a session.

Humidity, salt and empty months

An infrared cabin does not like to sit for months in a closed, damp room, so we place it in an air-conditioned or well-ventilated space, never on an open terrace in salt air, and add it to the villa's shutdown routine with a breathable cover. The electronics are the vulnerable part; a dry room keeps them happy.

From our factory to your room

It is made in Istanbul, assembled there once as a check, then flat-packed for the voyage to Port Louis; on site our crew puts it together indoors in a morning, wires it to the circuit prepared for it and runs the first session with you. It carries a 24-month warranty, and because it comes apart again, it moves when you do.

What it costs

For two people, budget Rs 75,000 to 125,000 installed; bigger cabins, or combined units with a small stone heater, are quoted from a sketch of the room.
