What a sauna and cold plunge actually cost in Nigeria

Why power sets the Nigerian price

In December 2025 the grid delivered on average only a little over 5,000 MW to a country whose demand is estimated at more than 18,000 MW, so hardly any household plans a big load around it. A 9 kW sauna heater and a plunge chiller are the two biggest things most homes will ever add to their inverter system, and fitting them properly is real work with a real price.

That is why our quotes show the power integration as a separate line. A quote that leaves it out is not cheaper; it simply leaves the problem for your electrician to discover after the cabin is installed.

What the power work adds

Two lines cover it. Inverter and changeover integration — scheduling, interlocks between heater and chiller, moving circuits onto the essential board — sits at ₦2.5–9 million on our list. Three-phase supply and board work, where the heater needs it, is ₦3–11 million. Both are carried out by your electrician to our drawing, and both are the difference between a sauna that works on a Tuesday evening in an outage and one that trips the house.

Running costs on Band A, diesel and sun

Customers on Band A feeders, which promise twenty hours or more of supply a day, were charged about ₦209.50 a unit at the end of 2025. Run the same unit through a diesel generator and, at the late-2025 pump price of roughly ₦1,400 a litre, fuel alone costs about twice as much. Solar hours cost nothing at the margin once the array is paid for.

A four-person sauna session uses about 5–7 kWh including warm-up: roughly ₦1,000–1,500 on Band A, twice that on diesel, and close to nothing if the heater is scheduled into the afternoon sun. A 1 HP chiller holding a lidded tub in Lagos may use 300–420 kWh a month, which is why shade, a lid and a sensible setpoint matter more here than anywhere.

The exchange rate, honestly

At the end of 2025 a dollar cost around ₦1,445 officially; across the year it had averaged closer to ₦1,550. Heaters, chillers, glass and timber are imported, so naira bands move with the rate. Our contracts are priced in dollars or euros, line by line, with naira shown for orientation.

Where Nigerian budgets go wrong

Buying a 9 kW heater for a 5 kVA inverter with a small battery bank. Putting the plunge on the non-essential side of the changeover, so it warms up at every outage. Leaving out the terrace slab check or the membrane in a tower. And importing a chiller sized for Europe, which runs flat out in Lagos and fails early.

Each of those costs more to fix than to avoid. The first conversation should be about your supply, not your timber.

What a sensible first project looks like

For many Lagos and Abuja homes: a two- or four-person cabin with a 6 kW heater on a scheduled circuit, a chilled plunge on the essential board, and the power integration drawn properly.
