Why the chiller is not optional

An insulated tub left alone in Lagos settles near ambient and stays there. That is refreshing for about four seconds and then it is warm water — no cold-shock response, no recovery benefit, and nothing to justify the cost.

So we insulate the shell and the base properly, fit a lid light enough that people actually close it, design shade into the layout, and only then size the chiller — a step above temperate figures, because the nights never help.

Putting it on the right circuit

A chiller is a continuous load rather than a peak one, which makes it well suited to solar and awkward for a battery bank overnight. The arrangement that works is: chiller inhibited while the heater is in its heat-up, chiller scheduled hard into the solar window where there is one, and the lid doing the overnight work so the compressor starts the day where it finished.

We also check that the plunge circuit is actually on the essential board that the changeover feeds. We have found it left off more than once — which means the one appliance that genuinely needs continuity is the one that loses it in every outage.

Water care in warm ambient

Everything that grows in water grows faster when it is warm. Circulation, cartridge filtration and an ozone or UV stage are standard on everything we build, and a rinse shower at the entry point turns a weekly water change into a monthly one.

With that arrangement a domestic tub runs four to eight weeks between changes. Without it, weekly, and the owner quietly stops using it by month three.
