A circuit guests actually complete

A thermal circuit only works if heat, cold water and a place to lie down sit within a few steps of each other; put a corridor between the sauna and the plunge and most guests try it once and stop. We draw that loop first and design the rooms around it, allowing a pair of cold tubs for each eight-seat sauna so the after-sunset rush keeps moving.

In Dar es Salaam the pattern is different: business hotels see a morning and an evening peak from guests using the gym, so the circuit sits next to it and the steam room is sized for short, frequent visits.

Plant that keeps working in high season

A resort cannot close its spa in August because one steam generator has scaled. Critical plant is duplicated, every room has its own isolation valves, and a spares box with part numbers stays on site; on an island a part that takes a day in Dar can take a week to reach Nungwi.

Water is tested before the generators are chosen, and a humidistat controls every extract fan, because Zanzibar's air rarely dries anything by itself.

Hotel experience behind the drawings

Our factory has delivered spa floors for hotel brands including Hilton, Hyatt, Sofitel, Rixos and Kempinski — 220 hotel spa projects in all. On the Mediterranean coast of Algiers we built the thermal section of the Sofitel Thalassa (2022): sauna, steam room, hammam and salt wall on a seawater-therapy floor, the same salt-laden conditions a Zanzibar resort faces.

Budgets, timing and training

Hotel programmes follow the construction schedule; for a refit we phase work room by room behind screens and prefer the April–May rains, when many Zanzibar resorts run at lower occupancy. At handover we train staff on operation, water testing and the daily log, then return at six months.
