Saunas & cold plunges in Victoria Island

Victoria Island is towers, hotels and offices, and almost everything we build here goes on a terrace or into a commercial spa.

Victoria Island, Nigeria

The lift, the slab, the membrane

Three checks before any price: the service lift's height, width and diagonal; the terrace slab's capacity for something close to a tonne of water; and whether the existing waterproof membrane was ever designed to live under a permanently wet installation.

Panels are then built to pass the lift with room to turn. A panel that fits the drawing but not the lift is an expensive afternoon, and we would rather spend twenty minutes measuring.

Drainage nobody planned for

A terrace gully sized for rainwater is not automatically sized for a full tub emptying. We design the discharge properly, because water finding its way into the apartment below is the single most expensive failure available on a tower terrace.

Hotels that cannot go dark

For the hotel work here the defining requirement is continuity: every guest-facing load — heater, chiller, lighting, extract — on circuits the changeover feeds, and sequenced so a generator start does not trip on inrush.

A spa that goes dark at seven on a Friday is a spa guests stop booking, regardless of how good the mosaic is.

Questions

Victoria Island: what people ask

Can a plunge go on a penthouse terrace?

With a structural check and proper drainage, yes. Without the check we will not quote it.

What happens when the grid drops?

Nothing visible, if the circuits were designed for it. That is most of the engineering in a Lagos hotel spa.
