Built to be handed over

The people who use the suite are rarely the people who built it. Everything is written down: an operating manual for the managing agent, a caretaker checklist, a service history and a spares list with part numbers.

Controls are chosen to be obvious rather than clever. A guest should be able to use the room without instructions and without being able to break it.

Indoors or on the deck

Both work here. Indoors gives a controllable room and easier ventilation; a deck suite under a pavilion gives the lagoon. Where the budget allows we do a cabin outside and the steam room inside, which suits the climate better than the reverse.

East coast specification

Engineer-signed anchorage, A4 stainless, sealed enclosures, deeper cavities, quarterly service with a corrosion inspection. The east takes the weather first.
