Rain is the design condition

Roof detailing, eaves, falls and drainage matter more here than anywhere else we work. Cabins get deep eaves and a properly ventilated void, decks get real falls, and plant enclosures are raised, roofed and never sited where surface water collects.

Anything that would survive a Lagos wet season and no more will fail here within a couple of years.

Riverine humidity

The air is close to saturated for much of the year, so nothing dries on its own. Humidistat extract ducted outside on any enclosed wet room, drained and vented cavities, sealed end grain and A4 stainless fixings throughout.

The plunge, by contrast, is straightforward: it is warm, so the chiller specification is the same as Lagos and the water treatment is the same as anywhere warm and shared.

Tourism and hospitality

Calabar markets itself hard on hospitality and events, and the hotels here are more willing than most to invest in facilities that photograph well. A compact thermal suite with a proper circuit and duplicated plant is the specification we recommend, and we build it to survive the climate rather than to survive the photographs.
