Five Elements Africa

Service, repairs and second lives

On an island, service is not an afterthought. It is the difference between a small part and a three-week wait for a shipment.

Service, repairs and second lives

What a visit includes

Sauna: stones out, sorted, turned or replaced, element resistance checked, thermostat and overheat cut-out tested, bench fixings tightened, timber cleaned, vents cleared.

Steam: generator descaled to an interval set by your actual water, probe cleaned, trap flushed, silicone checked, extract tested. Plunge: condenser cleaned, pressures read, cartridge changed, ozone cell checked, water tested.

Coastal visits add a corrosion inspection; bush visits add a dust inspection and filter change.

The spares kit

We leave a box on site with the parts that fail most and their numbers: an element, a thermostat, a cartridge, hose seals and a handful of A4 fixings. On Zanzibar or in the Serengeti that box turns a three-week wait into a ten-minute job.

Refurbishment

An old cabin with a sound shell is usually worth re-lining rather than replacing. On the coast we also retrofit marine specification to installations that were built inland-style — replacing plated fixings with A4 and enclosing plant — which is cheap and dramatically extends what is left of their life.

In short

  • Quarterly on the coast and in the bush, half-yearly in the highlands
  • Corrosion inspection on the coast, dust inspection in the bush
  • Spares kit with part numbers left on site
  • Retrofitting marine specification to an inland-built cabin is cheap and worth it
Questions

Service & repairs in Tanzania

Do you travel to Zanzibar and the parks?

Yes, in scheduled blocks so several properties share the travel and the ferry.

Can you fix somebody else's installation?

Usually. The most common jobs are corrosion, an undersized chiller and a scaled generator.

How long do stones last?

Two to four years with quarterly turning. Unturned they pack down, choke airflow and burn out the element.
