Chillers for salt, dust and altitude

The same tub needs a different machine on Zanzibar, in the Serengeti and at the crater rim. Sizing nationally is how you end up with a compressor that never rests.

Chillers for salt, dust and altitude

What we install

An outdoor-rated cabinet with a titanium heat exchanger, because the water is cold, circulating and usually ozonated. Insulated hoses connecting low in the tub wall so nothing crosses the rim. A sealed filtered enclosure wherever salt or dust is in the air.

It runs to a setpoint in cycles and lets the lid do the overnight work, which is what gives a compressor a life expectancy.

Sizing by location

Zanzibar and Dar: a step up from temperate figures, always. Warm humid nights mean the unit never gets a rest.

Serengeti and the southern parks: a step up for ambient plus a dust package, because a blanketed condenser cannot reject heat regardless of size.

Moshi and Ngorongoro: often a size down, because the nights genuinely help.

Service in blocks

Dar weekly. Zanzibar, the northern circuit and the southern parks in scheduled blocks so several properties share the travel and the ferry.

Coastal visits include a corrosion inspection; bush visits include a dust inspection and a filter change.

In short

  • Titanium heat exchanger everywhere; sealed filtered enclosure at the coast and in the bush
  • Sized by location — Zanzibar up, the crater rim down
  • Scheduled service blocks so travel and ferry costs are shared
  • Corrosion inspection on the coast, dust inspection in the bush
Questions

Chillers & plant in Tanzania

Can you service a unit I bought myself?

If parts are obtainable. Send the model number before you buy — island logistics make an orphaned unit a real problem.

How loud is it?

About a domestic air-conditioning outdoor unit; quieter in a sealed enclosure.

What happens in a power cut?

An insulated lidded tub holds temperature for many hours and the unit restarts by itself.
