What a visit includes

Sauna: stones out, sorted, turned or replaced, element resistance checked, thermostat and overheat cut-out tested, bench fixings tightened, timber cleaned, vents cleared of dust.

Steam: generator descaled to an interval set by your actual water, probe cleaned, trap flushed, silicone checked, extract tested. Plunge: condenser cleaned, pressures read, cartridge changed, ozone cell checked, water tested.

Location-specific inspections

Coast: corrosion inspection of every fixing, hinge, latch and enclosure, plus exposed end grain.

Bush: dust inspection, pre-filter change and a check of the plant housing seals.

Highlands: the easiest of the three. Half-yearly is genuinely sufficient inland.

Refurbishment and re-sizing

An old cabin with a sound shell is usually worth re-lining rather than replacing. And a surprising number of Nairobi cabins are worth simply re-heatering: a unit chosen without an altitude correction, replaced with the right size, turns a disappointing room into a good one for a fraction of a rebuild.
