One drainage line, one plant panel, three steps

A home wellness suite is a sauna, a wet room and a plunge arranged so a person moves between them without dressing, crossing a corridor or going outside in winter. Get that right and the room becomes a habit; get it wrong and it becomes an expensive cupboard.

Technically it means one drainage line with real falls, one ducted extract route, one cable run and one plant position behind a single access panel. Those four things belong in the build drawing. Everything after them is finishes.

What a villa spa package includes, and how long it takes

The usual package is a sauna, a steam room or hammam, a cold plunge with its chiller and a rest area — made and dry-assembled in our factory, with marble and mosaic cut there too, then crated as one shipment. Our crew installs and commissions the lot and trains whoever will look after it.

A complete villa spa takes twelve to sixteen weeks from drawing approval, plus shipping to your port. Indicatively, a one-wall suite runs USD 11,000–23,000 and a full villa suite USD 24,000–51,000, confirmed after a survey. The pieces are on the sauna, steam room and hammam and cold plunge pages.

Converted rooms, and what they cost to convert

Most home spas are conversions: a garage, an outbuilding, a lower floor, a courtyard room, a rear store in a Creole townhouse, a wing of a riad. The building already has walls and often drainage, which is why a conversion usually beats an extension on both cost and programme.

The two things that decide whether a room can take it are the drain — can it be given a fall to an existing line — and the extract, which has to reach outside. If both are possible the rest is ordinary work.

Older houses and modest boards

Many fine older houses run on wiring that was never meant to feed a 9 kW heater and has been added to more than once. We open the board before we promise any heater size; sometimes the right answer is a smaller cabin with better insulation instead of a costly rewire.

Where a house runs on an inverter and a generator, the suite is designed into that system rather than onto it: a scheduled heater circuit, the chiller interlocked against it, everything verified onto the board the changeover feeds.

Tenancies and demountable specifications

Diplomatic and corporate residences are often leased rather than owned. For those we build to a demountable design: a bolted frame, one service connection, no chasing into the walls, and handover papers written for the facilities manager who will inherit the room.

Our standard layout is a short corridor with the sauna door, the steam room door and the plunge basin opening off one wall, and a bench opposite. One drainage line, one plant access panel, three steps from hot to cold.

In a New Cairo villa the basement is often the best room for it: stable temperature, no direct sun, and the services are usually still accessible.

In a Cape house with a basement or a garage conversion this is straightforward. In a Highveld house on a raft slab it needs more thought about where the drain goes.

In a Nairobi house a converted garage or an outbuilding is frequently the best room: solid floor, drainage nearby, a door wide enough for panels, and no windows to lose.
